The Story
(sighs softly) is an attempt to deepen a character through his or her interpreter. This book follows an invitation to play the role of Vincent in a short film, an unexpected confrontation with the exercise of acting and appropriation. It was necessary to give body and density to this fictional figure, and in the course of this research, alongside the rehearsals and work sessions, a writing project was developed to explore the area where two identities intersect, where the memories of the character and the person playing him meet.
In its final form, (sighs softly) draws on the work of Robert Smithson (to whom Vincent devotes his academic research in the film), and his writings on cinema and memory, in a montage combining photograms, fictional diary entries and literary extracts.
Through this collection of fragments that make up his imagination and reveal his sensitivity, his relationship with reality and images, a portrait of Vincent emerges.
