Fond Perdu Vol. 1, plays with the idea of a hierarchy of power, the politics of perception, social distinctions and gradation of value. It draws attention of the effects of the social-political and economic situations, and how structural identification is mostly imposed by other people, as/when normative standards are based out of someone else’s perception. Bourouissa, in his exploration, brings attention to the use and meaning of identity, see- ing it as a structural thing that moves and breathes with you—evincing, it’s impossible to talk about identity without relating it to one’s culture and where they come from. Fond Perdu Vol. 1, is about human culture, community consciousness, and sensibility, directly.
Mohamed Bourouissa’s work highlights contemporary society and the dynamics within the cultural contexts in which they occur. His work exists at the crossroads of Cultural Anthropology, Ethnology and Arts, centering on socio-political discourse around belonging, cultural (in)difference and breaking down the hyperbolic media constructions.
