The Story

The first book in the Rhythm series is "Daegu était un grand étang (Daegu was a giant pond)" by France-based photographer Dohyeon Eom. The book is a series of photographs taken in 2021 and 2022, when the artist visited Daegu. The first photographs in the book are a series taken in 2021 and show the artist's brainstorming process to explore Daegu-related themes. The second series of photographs is the main body of the book and is a full-fledged observational account of the artist's visit to Daegu. In this series, which is part photographic essay, part travel diary, the artist captures stories and scenes of Daegu's ponds that have existed, have not existed, have not existed, yet have existed. In this exploration of the blurring of boundaries between pond and lake, reservoir and water, Daegu is not a dull and uninteresting city, not a politically conservative neighborhood, not a region of Samsung and apples, but one of many fluid cities whose fictionalized past and present play out in people's memories.
